Antonio Guterres: The situation of women in Afghanistan has worsened and an inclusive government has not been formed by the Taliban

The Secretary General of the United Nations said at the final meeting in Doha that the situation of women in Afghanistan has worsened in the last two and a half years and that the Taliban group has not established an inclusive government.

At the same time as the last day of the Doha meeting for Afghanistan in Qatar, the Secretary General of the United Nations told reporters in a press conference today (Tuesday, 30 February) that in this meeting, Afghanistan will not become a safe haven for Afghan terrorists, the establishment of inclusive government and respect for human rights in particular. The rights of women and girls were discussed and all the members of this meeting had a general agreement.

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, said in this meeting that Afghanistan should be a country for all its people and an inclusive government should be formed with the participation of all ethnic groups, and he asked the Taliban group to pay serious attention in this regard.

Mr. Guterres added that the Taliban group thinks that addressing the concerns of the world is not the responsibility of this group and they want the world to recognize them, but the international community thinks that none of its concerns have been addressed by the Taliban group and cannot make progress in interacting with this group. be

He stated that the two-day meeting in Doha was very useful and the non-participation of the Taliban group in this meeting did not cause any harm.

The Secretary General of the United Nations said in this press conference that the participants of the Doha meeting emphasized the abolition of severe restrictions by the Taliban on girls’ education and women’s work.

According to Mr. Guterres, these Taliban bans have significantly deprived the rights and freedoms of women and girls in Afghanistan.

The Secretary General of the United Nations added that his meeting with the special representatives of the countries for Afghanistan was “extremely productive” and consensus was reached on key issues in this meeting.

Mr. Guterres said in this press conference that he has decided to start consultations to appoint a special representative of the United Nations to facilitate interactions between the Taliban group and the international community.

However, Guterres said in the other part of his speech that there is a consensus among the representatives of the countries regarding the independent investigation of the UN special coordinator on Afghanistan, and its work will begin soon.

Regarding the Taliban group not participating in this meeting, Mr. Guterres said that he had received a letter from the Taliban, in which a request was made that violated the right of the United Nations to talk with other representatives of the Afghan people.
