At the same time as the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan with the presence of Taliban representatives is approaching, the US special representative for Afghan women’s affairs says that he has discussed with the representatives of several countries about the meaningful participation of Afghan women and civil society in the third Doha meeting.
Rina Amiri, the US special representative for Afghan women’s affairs, said on Tuesday (4 Jun) that in her meeting with the representatives of the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Qatar, France and Canada, the meaningful participation of Afghan women and civil society in the third Doha meeting has emphasised.
On the other hand, the members of the women’s movement seeking justice boycotted the third Doha meeting hosted by the United Nations at the end of June in a protest meeting.
The members of this movement say that this meeting is held between the Taliban and countries supporting terrorism and has nothing to do with the people of Afghanistan.
According to them, the countries that want to recognize the Taliban group are the killers of the Afghan people and the enemy of civil liberties and women’s rights.
The members of the movement of women seeking justice continued to portray the prohibition of girls from education and suppression of women’s street protests by the Taliban.
In this regard, the Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network says in a resolution that the presence of women and Taliban opponents in the third Doha meeting is necessary.
By issuing a ten-point resolution in connection with the upcoming UN meeting on Afghanistan in Doha with the presence of the Taliban, this network said that the presence of women in this meeting should be meaningful.
The resolution of this network states that the appointment of the United Nations special representative for Afghanistan must be in accordance with the standards and wishes of the people of the country, especially women; However, it is still not clear which other Afghan political groups and currents have been invited to participate in the third Doha meeting, except for the Taliban.
The third meeting of the special representatives of countries on Afghanistan affairs hosted by the Secretary General of the United Nations will be held in Doha on the 10th and 11th of the Cancer month of this solar year (June 30 and July 1, 2024).
