2020 New Year’s Party for World Peace and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula

An international peace NGO, called Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), held a “Peace-loving” new year’s party in Busan, South Korea on 18th, January. About 150 people from all walks of life attended the event to foster the environment for peace activities and raise the civic awareness of reunification of the Korean peninsula.

In his welcoming address, Mr. Jung-Soo Kim, Chief Director of HWPL’s Western Busan Branch, said, “At the beginning of the new year, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your cooperation with HWPL. This year, HWPL will keep moving forward towards establishing international law for peace, spreading a culture of peace through peace education, and creating interfaith harmony.”

HWPL, affiliated with the UN ECOSOC and the UN DGC, has been working for sustainable peace and cessation of war in cooperation with global leaders, youth and woman organizations, law experts, educators, and media.

Among the congratulatory video messages sent from around the world, Mr. Wali Kabir, The head of new of RTA Afghanistan, said, “To stop the war and bring peace to all the people in the world, everyone needs to look at it as something we all responsible for. Me, as an HWPL peace family member and a peace journalist, want to say that media has a great opportunity to transfer peace messages to the world.”

A human cultural asset of traditional Korean seal engraving, Mr. Jung-Hwan Ahn, stated that HWPL has not just shouted for peace but has produced practical results to achieve the establishment of an international legal framework and a culture of peace. He also emphasized the cooperation for the realization of world peace as well as the reunification of the two Koreas.

Regarding the reunification of the Korean peninsula, Dean of Muryang Buddhism Academy said, “This year marks the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War, and the peninsula has become a symbol of ideological conflict. However, next year will be the first anniversary of inter-Korean harmony and world peace”.

At the end of the event, the 2020 project for the reunification of the Korean peninsula was shared with the attendees. HWPL’s affiliated youth organization, International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), announced that this year project that focuses on the importance of the dialogue between the Korean people will start from February under the theme of “Youths Take the Baton for Peaceful Unification of Korea”.
