The participation of Afghan women in Asian competitions is prohibited in women’s sports

In the Asian Games that will be held in Hangzhou, China, two groups will participate representing Afghanistan, and this is the first Asian Games that will be held in China in the last two years after the re-establishment of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The team of athletes sent by the Taliban government to represent Afghanistan in these competitions is entirely male and their number reaches 130, but no female athletes have been sent by this government to participate in these competitions.Etal Mashwani, the spokesperson of the Olympic Department of the Taliban Administration, told Oshtid Press that these athletes will compete in 17 sports, including volleyball, judo and wrestling.
Meanwhile, the other group that participated in this tournament from Afghanistan, with the difference that under the black, red and green flag that was overthrown by the Taliban in 2021,
will represent the national women’s volleyball team of Afghanistan. They have recently resumed their activities in Iran and now they have gone to Hangzhou, China to compete in the Asian Games.
This is despite the fact that after the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan, women and girls, in addition to being deprived of education and work and social restrictions, have also been banned from sports, and a large number of female athletes have left Afghanistan in the past two years.
