On the International Day to End Impunity, today CPJ called for accountability in all cases of journalists killed for work in the world.
“The 15 journalists are among the 261 journalists who were murdered for their work worldwide between September 1, 2013, and August 31, 2023, and make up part of the nearly 80% of those cases where no perpetrators have been successfully prosecuted”, CPJ said.
CPJ added, the 2023 index shows rampant impunity continues unabated, with no one convicted in nearly 80% of the 263 cases of journalists murdered.
CPJ has recorded the murders of 956 journalists in connection with their work since it began tracking them in 1992. Their stories provide a portrait of injustice.
